1. What is the McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC)?

McKinney Community Development Corporation is a Type B sales tax corporation approved by McKinney voters in 1996.

MCDC is responsible for enhancing the quality of life in McKinney by funding community projects and facilities and promoting the city to encourage tourism and business development.

2. Who funds MCDC? What does it cost taxpayers?

MCDC is funded by a half-cent sales tax that generates approximately $9.5 million annually.

3. Who is in MCDC?

McKinney residents appointed by the City Council serve as a seven-member Board of Directors. MCDC also has two full-time staff members.

4. Who holds MCDC accountable?

MCDC is accountable to the McKinney City Council, and thus ultimately accountable to the residents of McKinney.

5. Does MCDC consider resident input in decision-making?

Yes! MCDC is made up of dedicated residents like you. Any McKinney resident may submit suggestions to any member of MCDC. We're always eager to hear from interested citizens.

7. What sorts of projects does MCDC fund? How are they chosen?

MCDC funds community facilities and related projects that will enhance the quality of life in McKinney through aesthetic, leisure or cultural means.

MCDC is restricted by state law (Development Corporation Act, 1979, and the Texas Constitution) as to what type of projects it can fund. Proposed projects that meet established guidelines are voted on by the MCDC Board of Directors, following a public hearing on the funding request.
